A US ally used $3.4 million Patriot missile to shoot down a $200 drone

    patriot-missile-shot-down-drone

Drones have become more and more irksome these days. They intrude someone's privacy more frequently causing difficulties. But this incident reported by a U.S. general is really odd and amusing to hear. General David Perkins in a military symposium said to the audience that one of the U.S. allies had used an MIM-104 Patriot missile costing $3.4 million to destroy a quadcopter drone estimated to cost about $200. Watch this video below for his statement. (Around 14:55 in the video)

An MIM-104 Patriot missile is a surface-to-air missile (SAM) developed by the USA in the early 80s. It is used by several countries throughout the world like Germany, Isreal, Japan, South Korea, Spain, etc. It is indeed a really tremendous overkill to be used as a weapon to take down a quadcopter drone that you find at Amazon or Walmart.

The problem here that you clearly can see is the difference in cost between the hostile target and the instrument that was used to defend against it. It is immensely on the wrong side here. But you have to do when it is the safety of civilians in the line. These days, even consumer drones like the one mentioned can be armed with explosives. Or it may be just a test launch of the missile to demonstrate its accuracy. However, we do not know which ally of the US it was but it happened and it is not the first time for something like this to happen.

    knowledge-zenith-ed9

When it comes to budget headphone selection, it is really hard to find the right one. There are a lot of headphones from both largely known and less popular brands. Knowledge Zenith ED9 or the KZ ED9 is one among the latter. It is a from a new Chinese manufacturer that just started emerging and is already favorited by many. Enthusiasts are recommending it for entry-level headphone buyers. So let us look into it in detail to find what's good about it in this review.

    Design

The Knowledge Zenith ED9 has a unique design language. It is a silver plated earpieces (Black plated if you buy the black headphones) with KZ branding. The Earbuds are reddish brown colored and are swappable of course. It looks premium overall and the cable is really nice. It is textured with a red and brown texture that seem to appear from the wiring underneath the translucent outer cable. The finishing of the cable gives a rubbery feel but it is not elastic. The headphones' each earpiece are longer than average ones making it noticeable when it is worn. This is good or bad based on personal preference. I personally am neutral about that look and don't mind them in terms of look. The remote/mic unit of the headphone is basic with a single button that will play/pause music and accept/reject phone calls. It follows same design pattern and is nice looking. The headphones overall look really good.

    Features

The Knowledge Zenith ED9 comes with numerous unique features that are listed by the manufacturer with special names. We can associate with some of them as we hear them commonly but others, we don't really know much and we don't even know if it is anything worth or valuable. So I'll now mention all the features that are listed by the maker.

    1. T-shaped Driver Unit: They promise clearer and softer sound than a traditional driver's offering from this unit that they have developed.
    2. New Vibrant PEK Diaphragm: This headphones use PEK diaphragm replacing regular PET. They are said to offer better vocals and bass by faster vibration frequency because of the lightness and thinness of PEK.
    3. Tuning Nozzles (An extra pair in box): You can replace the nozzles (The tip part of the earpiece that connects with the earbuds) with the extra pair they are providing. The one installed already is a brass nozzle that offers neutral sound. And the gold one which comes with the box can be swapped if you want extra bass.
    4. Super Bowl Augmented Mids: The nozzles' ends are shaped like a bowl which is said to improve mids and provide them more naturally.

    Performance

The headphones performed pretty well. During the tests on frequency response gave results that were on point with what the specifications mentioned. And then in the bass quality test, it was stable and pure. Bass is high in this headphone. The highlighter "T-Shaped drivers" provides softer output than others. I was listening few Rock and Heavy Metal tracks and they sounded really good with the extra bass tuning nozzles. Talking about the nozzles, the nozzles do influence the sound output and you can't find which nozzle provides the real sound. I concluded that the brass nozzle offers the best audio you can get from this driver.

    Comfort

The EZ ED9 is a really affordable headphone with good looks and performance. But it is somewhat lacking in comfort department. It is not worst or bad. It is just a bit behind because of some design elements. The longer earpieces affect your comfort and sometimes the earpieces fall off slowly from your ears because of that. The headphones are a little heavier too than average because of the metal construction. This is not a big minus at all. I am just mentioning it. And lastly, the remote/mic placement. It is placed a little lower in the cable than usual. It was inconvenient as you have to search for it. You can get used to it though later on.

The headphone fit and noise cancellation are all fine. The cable is long (120cm) enough for flexible uses and the jack plug is L-shaped. You can plug and use it on your mobile devices easily without any hassles.

    Verdict

So, the Knowledge Zenith ED9 is a very good headphone with great value for money and solid performance. The KZ ED9 has stunning looks too. So we really recommend it if you are looking for a sub-₹1000 headset. Hope you liked the review on Knowledge Zenith ED9 and it was useful. Nvidia reveals GTX 1080 Ti; 35% improvement over GTX 1080

    nvidia-gtx-1080-ti

At their event at the GDC 2017 in San Fransisco, Nvidia unveiled their new graphics card as expected. The GTX 1080 Ti which is a long awaited overhauled version of last year's GTX 1080. It will become their current flagship card whose price is said to be $699. The launch also made way to GTX 1080 price cuts.

Nvidia says that the 1080 Ti will be faster than their Titan X which was released after GTX 1080 that cost about $1200. While they also say that it outperforms GTX 1080 by 35% and also be quieter while running. This 35% improvement is the best of all Ti cards ever released by Nvidia. CEO Jen-Hsun Huang while releasing the card gave details on some specifications too. The GTX 1080 Ti graphics card will pack 11GB GDDR5X of video memory. The card is still based on Nvidia's Pascal architecture with 3584 CUDA cores with a stock clock of 1583MHz. At the demo at the conference, they ran the card at 2000MHz when the card reached around 60 degrees celsius with the regular cooler under load.

The GTX 1080 Ti will be out on March 6th at the price of $699. Meantime, Nvidia has already announced the GTX 1080 price cut. It is now available only at $499. While this card looks like Nvidia's bid against the AMD Radeon Vega, AMD has only been delaying their actual launch. So we have to just wait for a bit for that rivalry. Right now,  GTX 1080 Ti will be the performance king of graphics cards.
